The way we used to be

When people read some of the most popular fashion blogs, they just see what the writer wants them to see: pretty clothes, amazing shoes, bloggers parties of doom, etc etc etc. However, we never get to have a little taste of their embarrassing moments. Those cheesy as fuck things they did in the past, when they weren’t “famous”.

This is why I want to share with you some of the funniest things if found while bouncing around in the Internet.

Here I give you one of my favorites, Rumi’s old Maxim profile, courtesy of miss Anna Pei. Shit, Rumi! Maxim, really?? I’ve never think of you as “classy”, but come on…

And here you have a real delight: Karla’s old girl band “Slumber Party Girls” singing the worst song ever in the history of mankind. Seriously. OMG Karla, who would have thought you used to be so painfully cheesy?

Oh, the way we used to be!! Don’t worry dear fashion bloggers, we’ve all had our embarrassing moments. It’s just funnier because it’s you.

I must applaud you for publishing one of the worst blogs I have come across. Your grasp of the English language is revolting. Please for the sake of impressionable young people everywhere, STOP writing NOW.

    • Victoria / Oct 4 2010 6:00 pm

      You sound like a snob.

    • Jackie / Nov 8 2010 9:22 pm

Your failed attempt at “grasping” the English language is quite comical, especially where your grammar usage is concerned.

  2. Lois / Oct 3 2010 2:22 am

Rumi ohmygosh and Karla no words ‘

  3. Liz / Oct 3 2010 6:00 am

Oh gosh – Rumi does look skanky in that Maxim profile. Wet t-shirt contest?

  4. anti-rumi / Oct 3 2010 2:40 pm

I hate Rumi and wish she would fall of the face of the Earth. You see she used to be nice before she thought she was actually SOMEBODY yet now she struts around like a fucking model. Did you check her out for R. Minkoff? The girl looked downright homely and fat. She’s lost. She’s nobody she just thinks she is. OK so people read her blog, a lot of people might just be tuning in to see the “weekly trainwrecks for a laugh” anyone ever thought about that? There isn’t any substance there or s-t-y-l-e.

A lot of these bloggers heads are getting too big for their shoulders and britches. Have they taken a step back and realized (a few thousand read my blog) not the whole fucking world? SOMEBODY NEEDS TO KICK RUMI WHERE IT HURTS. I LOVE YOU!

  5. Fashion Puttana / Oct 5 2010 6:20 am

Ohh Nati this is fucking awesome! I could give two shits about Rumi. As for Karla it’s cheezeball awesomeness IMO. She just became that much more adorable to me with this video. And at least they have all their lady parts covered up a very “skank free zone video” I might add.
And even though Karla isn’t my style all the time I like that she isn’t crackwhore thin like other fashionblogskanks.

  6. Gala Darling = Amy Paape / Oct 5 2010 6:41 am

Here is another one– Gala Darling used to be called Amy Paape. Ha ha what a loser.

Nati did you see how Gala demands lavish gifts from her Amazon wish-list from the readers she turns her back on? big nosed hypocrite.

    Gala Darling Wants Stuff

    • natihell / Oct 6 2010 3:30 am

Hahaha yes! I saw that on SW’s blog. What a douche… If you’re going to accept their gifts, at least let them comment, Jesus.

  7. Kristy / Oct 5 2010 5:32 pm

OMG, the video made me LOL.
They’re definitely not HOT and thank God the band is now MIA.
BTW, I love your blog, Nati!

  8. Anna Pei / Oct 7 2010 10:19 am

anti-rumi- at least Rumi admitted in some interview done way back when that she had done cheesy modelling jobs before getting a blog, and Karla admitted to this pile of crap video above, if only in passing. Good girls, owning their embarrassing pasts. And jeez, man, lay off the “fat” comments- Rumi’s clothes look like a pile of rags on her but girl is SKINNY.

  9. Sister Wolf / Oct 11 2010 5:38 am

I love Karla’s old videos! They are a gift from god.

not saying that her look of utter confusion is due to the fact that she’s asian, but i’ll leave the candor up to you

    • vee / Oct 18 2010 6:39 pm

don’t preface with “not saying,” and then go on and say the offensive thing anyway.
racist humor is lazy and unclever.

Vee, i think you should have been a facial.

    – Shes really annoying me.

  14. camilla / Oct 24 2010 10:07 pm

you gotta admit that Karla was the best dressed in that video though.
Your blog is hilarious, even though I’m a ‘fashion blogger’. 🙂
some of ‘us’ take themselves a tad too seriously

  15. camilla / Oct 24 2010 10:10 pm

and some people are trying to be to individual.
The beckerman girls – dressing like that is never socially acceptable.
you clearly did not used to dress like that before you started blogging.

  16. camilla / Oct 25 2010 2:51 pm

and I just thought I’d point out that the Glamourai does need her glasses, check her recent post if you don’t believe, referring to the geek chic post.

  17. La Banana / Oct 30 2010 4:28 am

    Nati–

You are absolutely hilarious. I agree that I think these fashion bloggers are often self-obsessed divas. Their “photo editorials” and the 50 word rants which usually follow them are more like conversational masturbation than a how-to on fashion. Though there are some bloggers who actually do dress like “normal people” and reach out to others like us, I am starting to get pissed off with those like chicmuse and rumi who flaunt their internet celebrity like they are A-listers.

I like chiara and a few others I’ve seen via lookbook, but for the most part, I think the blogger world needs a major laxative in order to shit out the build up of pretentious, rich bitches.

  18. Katie / Oct 31 2010 3:32 pm

The most annoying thing is that all fashion bloggers pretend to be like “I have a passion for fashion and i want to share it and give inspiration”.That is bullshit, course all of them just looking for fame!!!

    • Anna / Nov 4 2010 9:28 am

Yeah, “sharing”, my ass, like they’re doing a public service or something. That has to be one of the dumbest claims I’ve ever heard fashion bloggers make.

  19. Kiki / Nov 14 2010 9:02 am

    post something…

  20. Le Facade / Nov 16 2010 4:05 am

I am getting really pissed off with bloggers. I admit it: I get addicted to looking at lookbook and fashion blogs like its a 9 to 5 job. I’ve been following Chiara from the Blonde Salad on a pretty consistent basis and arrived to the conclusion that once all these bloggers start to gain a following, the whole motivation for having a blog is not to “reflect their sense of style” or to “inspire” or “share”, but mobilized by self-interest.
Its harder to find a job than a penny in well right now, at least the ones which are good paying. What person wouldn’t consider turning their passion aka obsession using a months paycheck to buy shoes into a full time career? The part that just makes me want to vomit is that the majority of the followers on these blogs become completely distracted by the consumerism on these sites. DG, Gucci, YSL…. fashion bloggers have lost sight of the fact that they too were people who were forced to shop the sale rack at TJ Maxx or look for knock offs at Forever 21. What good is this blogger celebrity if its completely out of touch with the reality of the people who are necessary for their success? Without Chiaras 7,000 followers and Rumis 15,000 where would they be. Someone needs to represent the little guys a little bit more fairly.

And btw….the fucking “surprises” i.e. taking picture of designer shoe boxes and expecting your viewers to guess whats inside is getting old.

P.s. Nati hell, where are you?! Did someone send you a cease and desist letter?! Get back to writing!

    • Badley / Nov 17 2010 12:23 am

This comment made my day, and they’re right, where are you?

    • kim / Mar 9 2011 11:51 am

    • Majkinja / Mar 20 2011 6:26 pm

  25. Marcella / Nov 29 2010 6:50 am

Some insider information on the bloggers.

Rumi is bulimic her new bff Bryan let it slip when he mentioned her puking every fashion week in her restroom.

Karla has neglected her Mom ever since her seperation from her Dad 8 months ago… Her “I’m so close to my Mom” Mom leaves her voice messages just begging to hear her daughter’s voice and being ignored. Karla deserted her for Thanksgiving. Her boyfriend has cheated on her twice, she still took him back both times.

Chiarra has had plastic surgery and fixed her nose twice.

Deni aka un-Chic Muse is a lesbian. She was caught kissing both Cherry Blossom Girl and Andy from Style Scrapbook in Paris TWICE!!!

Cupcakes and Cashmere uses an automated robot commenter. Her online user count is also fake.

Saucy Glossie uses men for photos.

Karen WhereDidUGetIt has a midget boyfriend and no style sense whatsoever ….maybe it’s because she used to be a man!!!! Truth!

If you want more dirt let me know. We miss you Nati!

    • Sadie / Nov 30 2010 3:41 pm

Marcella, I almost spit out my coffee! How do you know all this?

      • Marcella / Dec 10 2010 6:21 am

        Inside info 😉

    • Lefacade / Nov 30 2010 11:45 pm

Andy T from StyleScrapbook has a boyfriend—like rumi and chiara, her boyfriend is actually her photographer. I question the validity of your statement that Denni is lezbo….but interesting nonetheless

Rumi http://www.fashiontoast.com/2008/08/crop-top.html its possible she is bulimic….

    • Al / Dec 2 2010 12:36 am

I’m curious how you came out this insider information, since I know some of it is completely incorrect. It’s easy to spread lies, when you aren’t required to provide proof.

    • Vickie / Dec 2 2010 5:16 am

I have wondered about Karen — how do you know she is a man?

      • Marcella / Dec 11 2010 4:49 pm

Her boyfriend found out and it slips whenever he’s drunk. He used to be gay or still is so he doesn’t care. He’s tiny come on, a tall “woman” makes him look good next to him while he is in his power suit.

    • Cupcakes and Cashmere automated robot commenter / Feb 20 2011 12:17 am

Marcella, what is an automated robot commenter? How does Cupcakes girl do this?

    • Lara / Sep 22 2011 1:06 pm

If Chic Muse is a lesbian, it would be the most authentic and interesting thing about her.

  26. Kiki / Dec 2 2010 4:28 am

Okay, that sarah-laurenn blog…. She looks like an Edvard Munch painting.

Nati Hell, Nati Hell, where have you gone? I miss your rants about fashion bloggers! Come back, ignore/laugh at the haters, and make us all laugh once more, please. If you stay away much longer, the fashion bloggers of the world are going to think you’ve given up!

Oh, I get it! You’re lulling them into a false sense of security. Great! I think it’s working.

  31. Marsbars / Dec 7 2010 11:18 am

Omg post new stuff!!! I love reading your blog

  32. Marcella / Dec 11 2010 4:57 pm

    Some more INSIDE DISH/INFO/TRUTHS.

Deni sleeps with people to get ahead, supposedly Rumi tried it once too. SLUT MUCH?

Taghrid has had lice … thrice. She still doesn’t cut her hair. UM, EW?!

Rumi is so contrived she hurts to look at. She even steals quotes for titles and tries to make them sound as if they were her own… PS: Bryan, watch out SHE.IS.USING.YOU.HONEY. I’m sorry.

Karla anonymously leaves rude comments on big bloggers sites. She used to do it to Rumi all of the time until she found out. The way I know this is by comparing what she says anonymously with the wording used loosely on her own blog, it matches. And I have friends who can check IP addresses. 😉

Karen’s (she/he) has a home filled with piles of clothing everywhere: kitchen, bedroom, basement, yard.. it’s so disgusting the cast of Hoarders emailed her. She has maggots in her shoes and she dresses by grabbing pieces from different piles in a hurry. HONEY, YOU CAN’T DRESS. Give it up already. (Or take pictures for that matter!) Walking around like a salvation army store exploded on you does NOT FASHION MAKE.

Andy tried to fix her nose and the job was botched. That’s why her face looks crooked. NO STYLE THERE EITHER. Just a messy mix but at least she does try and sometimes gets it right.

Cupcakes and Cashmere wears simultaneous items from different vendors/sponsors in a single outfit “to get it over with” which looks a hot mess. Sweetie, it’s OK since most of your readership is middle america and has no sense or grab on what fashion really is (you’re good at what you do.) ROLLS EYES, to the real fashionable slaves of life, puke looks better on that what you come up with!

Le Fashion (olsensanonymous, lelove, lesmoking) all those shitty blogs by Jen whatever. WELL THE GIRL IS MASSIVELY OVERWEIGHT. AND looks like a freaking sausage in the tiny jeans she seems to enjoy cramming herself into. GUH-UH-ROSS!

    • Rei / May 2 2011 12:28 pm

How do you know that they slept with people? It sounds like you’re a gossip whore yourself? Do you have any reputable sources which you can prove this? Probably not. You’re probably a petty jealous girl who makes up shit to make herself feel better.

You must be OBSESSED with these fashion bloggers to have your friends check their IP address- and you’re probably, AGAIN, making things up about people you’ve never met. And even if Karla did leave comments on Rumi’s blog, is that any better than what you’re doing now? Bashing these bloggers with tripe and rumors ANONYMOUSLY?

If you hate these girls at least provide valid reasons- not because they’re ugly or fat or their writing style annoys you. Or better yet, don’t read their blogs at ALL. No one is forcing you to look at their websites but yourself which you obviously do- you seem to have stalker like tendencies.

  33. theonlyonewhocares / Dec 20 2010 8:29 am

Come back, we need you! I’ve thought about starting my own blog to discuss bloggers like Jane and Gala and Rumi because they annoy me a lot but I don’t have the balls like you do, and you do it so much better than I would!!
From a very entertained, avid reader.

  34. khans1024 / Dec 21 2010 2:51 am

FANTASTIC! Judging by the comment boost, this post is getting around!

  35. need to know why / Dec 22 2010 11:02 pm

PLEASE EXPLAIN WHY THIS IS REVERED AS FASHION????

    (TAVI)

I mean her “outfit” and I use the term loosely, looks like a middle aged person who stays in all day in pajamas (they DON’T EVEN MATCH) might I add… IT’S annoying. Why is this girl getting so many doors opened when there’s obviously a higher threshold of talent 9(ACTUAL TALENT) out there!!!????

    PLEASE TELL ME WHY!

  36. Lefacade / Jan 2 2011 6:32 pm

Has anyone noticed that many of the fashion blogs are kind of losing their fire? Its like at the end of 2009 bloggers must have run out of ugly expensive things to buy or just ran out of ideas on how to market themselves differently.
Denni from Chicmuse seems to be out of touch with her viewers….one day she’s in Paris, back in USA , and then in Japan . She never states why she’s in Tokyo. I guess girlfriend finally feels she fits in somewhere, she’s been wearing the asian style make up long enough–though I do kind of like it.
Ive always been on the fence about Chiara. She’s been posting less about her purchases which makes it hard to hate her now since she appears to be living and enjoying her life instead of constantly buying things, some of which belong in the Star Wars set archives.
Rumi…..is still quite the Dr. Seuss making up her own words….

    Bryanboy—same old bryan.

Andy– She has always been down to earth.

  37. little j / Jan 5 2011 4:26 pm

please write about this blog. i’m interested in your reaction: http://rustedrevolution.com/

  38. Jennifer / Jan 5 2011 10:34 pm

Here’s a breakdown on why some bloggers need to just stop.

Rumi – I never knew rummaging through the dumpster meant fashion.
Bryan – Women’s clothes (meant for women!)
Karla – Are you over 50 and black?
Tavi – Wow, so dressing in anything from a pile on my floor is haute couture- mis-match & all?
Chiara – Circles under my eyes and flaunting giveaways left and right must = popularity!?
    Andy – Um, ugly.
    Taghrid – Um, uglier.
Emily – Stick to the kitchen. Please.
Asian Bloggers – All mini-Rumis and entirely annoying.
Jane – OMG I have so many shoes I NEED to wear them this year. STFU already! Ugh.
Photobloggers Knightcat and Wildfox – Never credit their sources annoys me to know end, they also steal images from other bloggers. HELLO LINK UP.

    • Missy / Mar 9 2011 6:55 pm

“Women’s clothes are meant for women”… isn’t he gay? Oh well, that’s beside the point; people are allowed to wear whatever they want to wear.

“Are you over 50 and black?” What is that supposed to mean? Is there something wrong with being over the age of 50? OR being black? I’m particularly interested in the “black” part of your statement.

Calling all Asian bloggers “mini Rumi”s is just flat out offensive. Just because someone is Asian and decides to start a fashion blog doesn’t mean they’re trying to be Rumi. It means that they want a fashion blog, and happen to be Asian. Let’s take race out of this, okay?

As for the stick to the kitchen comment… we won’t even get into how wrong that sort of statement is.

      Seriously, what’s wrong with you?

      • Rei / May 2 2011 12:29 pm

Totally agree with you. These racist comments only emphasize the original poster’s stupidity and arrogance

  39. Sophie / Jan 9 2011 4:21 pm

Fashion blogs are a brilliant way to show what you like.. and whoever looks at ur blog, thats their decision. i love blogging.. maybe u should try blogging, cuz its not that easy to become of of the best bloggers.. anyways, check out my new blog

  40. Gül Eftalidis / Jan 9 2011 7:53 pm

Love you girl. First comment made me laugh, do we have to know english to talk? I can say FUCK:)
yes babe, I can say FUCK and it’s enough:)

  41. ihatethatgirlwiththefuglymakeup / Jan 16 2011 9:40 pm

That girl denni -or whatever the FUCK her name is- annoys me to no end. She isn’t chic quite the opposite actually. She looks typical Mexican and no I don’t mean pretty. There are many beautiful Mexican women. Denni isn’t one of them. No, Denni is homely. APPLY YOUR MAKEUP CORRECTLY. She also comes across as very conceited. She does not deserve half the shit or attention she gets. When I found your posts about her you absolutely made my day. Thanks and CHEERS. Keep blogging.

Other girls I hate: In order.
Rumi ( slut much? ) / Karla ( overweight and wanna be black much? ) / Emily ( wow you’ve become quite the BITCH + I laugh at how you can’t dress though ) / Andy ( annoying & ugly all in one!! Oh and, FYI, for the future: neon and khaki? BARF ) / Chiara ( god this woman is aggravating !! flaunting every bullshit up our noses till they bleed ) / Karen ( you look like a man and you smell like one too… P.S. stop posing crouched with your arms all out – you look like a MONKEY ) / Aimee/Vanessa/Rachel (Asian, always look confused in their photographs. Please. We already have a Rumi and it’s god awful enough!) / Jane (we get it you sold your dad’s things so you could afford every hideous designer shoe out there, bow down to the Goddess. FUCK NO! ) / Tavi ( Just say NO! ) / Bryan Boy ( ok so you fucked Marc Jacobs or something? SHUT UP! )

In general fashion bloggers with real style sense (shop mid-to high) mix and match and are genuinely down to earth and not painful to look at are great. It’s just the ones above that make me sick to my stomach…. TO THOSE ABOVE, JUMP OFF THE FUCKING PLANET AND DIE ALREADY! K? THANKS!

    • Rei / May 2 2011 12:31 pm

What exactly do you mean about being overweight or black? How does that have ANYTHING to do with hating her blog. It sounds to me like you should be more worried about your ignorant racist tendencies than these blogger’s fashion.

  42. janice / Jan 17 2011 9:22 am

  44. MizzJ / Jan 21 2011 6:20 am

hahaha I love the concept for this blog (though I hope I’m never in it). I think A LOT ok all, fashion bloggers should see this b/c it would give them a good dose of reality. My guy friends make fun and call me a dork all the time for doing outfit posts, but I do have to admit they’re fun, so long as you really don’t take yourself seriously and starting “Gawsh, all these commenters loving my style must mean I’m really hot and know what I”m doing!”

  45. Kloss / Jan 26 2011 9:12 am

    My two cents worth:

    1) Dress to impress, never to shock
    2) Go back to basics (think CK models with singlets and jeans),so your photos would never look yesteryear
    3) Play with colours and accessories and create unexpected combinations
    4) Get inspired in putting your outfits together by listening to your favorite music
    5) Start your own trend and reinvent the old
    6) Last but not least, forget fashion blogs, get a taste of real style from real people at street trends at vogue.com (that was waaay before The Sartorialist got famous)

  50. Anon. / Feb 15 2011 2:26 pm

I think someone is a little jealous of these bloggers’ success. Despite the fact that you think they don’t have style or talent, clearly SOMEONE (cough cough experts like big name magazines and designers) does considering all the jobs they’ve gotten.

Cheers to your negative attitude and provocation of a series of comments against the asian race.

Expects not in style but consumerism. What easier way to sell your brand than to leave some swag with a naive blogger who mistakes her commercialism for celebrity? It is kind of disgusting, but so far, consensual.

You always knock on other fashion bloggers. While I respect your opinion, you criticize other people’s styles and trends you believe are ridiculous without giving your readers any idea of what your own sense of style is. I’m genuinely curious to know what it is you find chic. Could you maybe do a post in the future on what fashion blogs and trends you love?

LOL got some bitter people here. Here is some constructive criticism of those blogs. I think bloggers fall under 2 categories: some of them are actually stylish, others just enjoy shopping.

Rumi: used to be amazing in terms of style, now its just black and white sheets arranged in different ways on her too skinny body. Terrible writing, but overall still entertaining. The photography is better now so her bf deserves more credit.

Karla: I like how she is confident of her style and body type, kudos. Yeah her style is 50s grandma- ish but it works on her. Her bf looks douchy though :S

Aimee: lover her style, girly & sexy at the same time. but yeah wears too much short skirts and shorts, probly looks hookerish in real life, but great for photos.
( I disagree all asian bloggers want to be Rumi… racist much to lump them all together?)

Karen: I think her style… more misses than hits. Seems like a nice girl though

Chiara: over rated in terms of style, I do envy all the free stuff she gets!

Emily: I love her content, she clearly knows her stuff, having gone to school for fashion journalism, and that is why her blog is popular. I like the fact that she updates on work days, and puts a lot of effort into her blog. Yeah her blog is cooking and fashion, and she has a classic style, so more mass appeal, not really avant garde, and she`s not trying to be.

Jane: please go to university! there is more to life than just acquiring stuff!

one blog that kind of irks me: fashion snag, it seems like her boyfriend buys all her designer goods and she just shops online all day.

but overall we should appreciate bloggers for putting themselves out there and entertaining us. it does take work to maintain a blog. I like bloggers that have a regular day job and just blog as a hobby, makes them seem more down to earth.

anyways, my 2 cents. now i`ve just wasted 30 mins talking about something that wastes my time on a daily basis gahhhh

Anon- Jealous? More like dumbfounded as to why some of these girls have reached ‘success’ when their really isn’t any depth or quality material to be found on said sites. Some get way more hype than they even should. There are many better bloggers out there that deserve some recognition. And some like Rumi and Chiara who just flaunt and show off who don’t. As far as the written word goes, Chiara and Deni especially couldn’t piece a proper sentence together if they were PAID to. And as far as quality goes, Emily has to have the poorest images on the net.

Why do they have success, why do BIG NAMES, Magazines, et all accept them and promote them? They are virtually using them for their own gain. Not because they are of any actual quality. TRUST IN ME.

Sara- Emily can’t write, model, pose or even design her page to become less of an eyesore. Her only good side? The food, mediocre but decent. More so than her Walmart special dressing sense. Gag.

I actually enjoy fashion blogs but going through your posts were so entertaining. You have a very strong opinion and back it up well. It’s really enjoyable and a lot of it is so true! But I’m still a fan of bloggers :] You should post more! It’s sad that you only have a couple months worth written 😦 I was really enjoying reading your blog.

Writers show “what the readers want to see” and readers read “what they want to read” because that is the entire point. The only people interested in the dirty laundry and embarrassments of others are people who love to be negative and feel falsely superior. Fashion blogs (and many similar types of blogs) are valuable because they offer an optimistic and positive and personal mess-free place to discuss other interests in a lighthearted and creative manner. I read plenty of sad stories in the news, hear all the time about peoples’ foibles and setbacks and failures (celebrities and otherwise) and receive a shockingly frequent feed of the overly personal details of peoples’ lives on facebook. Call me crazy, but sometimes it is nice to see people at their best and see what makes people happy for a change – and in an incredibly appropriate venue, no less.

You’re a bully and a a bit of a sadist and good at criticizing – there are a LOT of mediocre people out there with those traits, so don’t feel very proud of it.

  60. Hellllo / May 5 2011 7:49 pm

Seriously, you have to come back. This blogging world is getting crazier every day. Seems like everybody is now a “fashion blogger”. The most weirdest thing is that all the famous bloggers have started to copy each other’s styles, which is hilarious. And they all need to own the exact same things. I still love reading them, but there are some things that realllly annoy me and the personality of these blogs is vanishing every day.

    Natihell, why?

Why did you stop writing? I loved your blog!

Well i’ve accepted you’re not coming back so I figured we could continue to grow this comment section of your last post to raise awareness about annoying fashion bloggers. Since many of them censor comments ( and that’s B.S. whoever actually believes the ole saying ” If you have nothing nice to say derp, derp, derp”) I figured we could post those censored comments here along with a link to the post. What do you think girls, are you in?
